In an article in Forbes Magazine, a writer attempted to define the spirit of an entrepreneur and summed it up like this, “The entrepreneurial spirit is a gift that inspires others to become the best they can be.”
The characteristics, he said, that mark the spirit of an entrepreneur
are encompassed in the words passion, adaptability, positivity, leadership,
and ambition. And these words can best describe the spirit of signage
guru, Marc Levy.
Marc Levy first discovered his enthusiasm for design as a child. He found
sign-making not only fun, but also a way in which he could incorporate
his creative ambitions and graphic design talents all at once. What began
as a passion and interest soon became a career choice for Marc. This led
him to studying art and design while gaining some inspiration from the
world of architecture.
Levy began working in signage design in an era dominated by handmade and enamel-baked signs. It was an evolving time in which the signage industry in Sydney was changing and modernising. However, with the adaptability to embrace the new, Levy remained enamored by the traditional and was able to draw attention to himself by being able to bridge the gap between the traditional and the modern.
From his early days, Marc Levy had a love of graphic lines, spheres and grids, and a sharp eye for strong colours – but it was his skill and enthusiasm that ensured that he was always able to create work that was classic. In addition, his personality and people-centred nature ensured that he could bring a personal touch to his work.
The opportunity to travel played a significant role in Marc’s creative
growth. Travelling to all the major cities around the world inspired his
attitude towards design and creativity.
Vision, style and colour have become significant hallmarks of Marc’s
business principles. His need to research and to constantly engage with
his staff and clients remain prevalent in his leadership technique, combined
with his knack of approaching each new challenge with enthusiasm and a
fresh point of view.
Adapting to the changing times, Levy has embraced the world of communication technology while staying true to his hands-on, tried-and-tested methods. Passionate about his industry, positive about his abilities, and willing to be adaptable, Levy has this to say about his work, “I think designers should be like doctors, in that the studying and learning should never end.”
It is by combining elements of passion, adaptability, positivity, leadership, and ambition that Marc Levy is where he is today.
