LETTERING AND NUMERICAL SIGNS

Some signs need no lettering on them; they do not require a single word to communicate a message. When this message can be told instantly, with just a symbol or in a simple form, the function of a sign is complete.

The role of lettering

Most signs however, require additional information. Using lettering then becomes the only means of adequately conveying a message or further complimenting an element of design.

It is quite possible to have an excellent sign with design features are in letter or numerical form alone. Lettering is an art and requires a thorough knowledge of the history, anatomy and production of letters, as well as familiarity with the use of great design. As with so many art forms, the novice or amateur tends to thinks he is able to produce accomplished lettering. Small wonder then that we see so many signs in which the lettering is distinctively poor.

Creative use of letters and numerals

Certain of our installations have both letters and numerals and boast great characteristic and visual appeal. All are very legible and in some of the lettering, comprehensive and intriguing design has been developed. The lettering and signs manufactured by Signs360 show that no matter how letters are produced, using various materials and techniques and applied on all kinds of backgrounds, what remains significant to design is the taste and appropriateness with which they have been chosen.

Great symbols take on iconic status

Famous symbols include the “M” in McDonalds, the tick in Nike, the “I” in iPhone, the face of Colonel Sanders in Kentucky, the distinct design of the crown in Rolex and the guitar symbol in Hard Rock Café.
